5 Types of Disposable Coveralls

There is a wide variety of disposable coveralls sold on the market today.

Five of these disposable coveralls being :

  1. Microporous Disposable Coveralls with Seam Seal.
  2. Non Seam Seal Microporous Disposable Coveralls.
  3. Common Polypropylene Disposable Coveralls.
  4. Polypropylene Spun-Bond Disposable Coveralls.
  5. Medical Gown.

They all serve the same purpose to prevent droplets / bodily fluid containing pathogens like virus and bacteria from getting into your clothings and possibly infecting you.

What makes them different though, and why are there so many of them?

The answer lies in the levels of comfort each of these disposable coveralls offer.

As disposable coveralls are made to prevent any kind of fluid from passing through, they’re all designed to be both waterproof and air-tight, which is a bit of a flop because then that would make disposable coveralls too hot to wear over a prolonged period of time.

This could make anyone wearing them feel uncomfortable from the drenching sweats.

The presence of these different varieties of disposable coverall provide users with plenty of choice for a more comfortable protective gear.

Whether they’re looking for coveralls that can be both comfortable and protective, or coveralls that are simply cheaper.

Microporous Disposable Coveralls

For both Microporous Disposable Coveralls with / without Seam Seals you get :

  • More breathable coverall owing to the Microporous film.
  • More tightened protection from the seam seals.
  • Excellent protection against droplets and other bodily fluid.
  • Disposable coverall with high tear resistance.
  • Head cover.

Microporous film allows your body to release heat from the air-tight coverall, which makes it more comfortable. This film is also found in the manufacturing of band-aids to keep wounds dry and aerated.

The way it’s made is that manufacturers would coat Polypropylene, a basic material for most disposable coveralls, with Microporous film, to create this more breathable coverall.

Polypropylene is a material that gives disposable coverall its waterproof and air-tight nature. It makes for perfect protection against droplets and other bodily fluid, but hot when worn over a prolonged period of time.

Disposable Coveralls

Common Disposable Coverall is made purely out of either Polypropylene fiber or Taslan-Balloon fiber without any Microporous coating. It’s hotter to wear than its Microporous Disposable Coveralls counterpart.

Specification of Common Disposable Coveralls :

  • Made up of Polypropylene fiber or Taslan-Balloon fiber.
  • Excellent protection against droplets and other bodily fluid.
  • Head cover.

Although it isn’t as breathable as it’s Microporous counterpart, it can still provide maximum protection against droplet / bodily fluid. Common Disposable Coveralls also has similarly high tear resistance.

Polypropylene Spunbond Disposable Coveralls

Polypropylene Spun-Bond Disposable Coveralls uses a completely different material than its Common and Microporous Disposable Coverall counterparts. It uses fabric-like material that’s knitted in such a way to allow the body to breathe, while still maintaining optimal protection against droplets.

Specification of Polypropylene Spun-Bond Disposable Coveralls :

  • Made up of Polypropylene Spun-Bond fabric.
  • More breathable than Microporous Disposable Coverall.
  • Good protection against droplets / splashes.
  • Lighter and more comfortable.

Think of polypropylene spun-bond fabric as Taro leaves that deflects water and allow it to flow away. That way, it’s harder for droplets / splashes to seep through.

Medical Gown / Surgical Gown Disposable Coveralls

Lastly, Medical Gown is made using similar fabric material as Polypropylene Spun-Bond Disposable Coverall. It is the most comfortable than the 4, and it’s usually made very loose-fitted using the most breathable material.

However, medical gowns offer the least amount of protection compared to the other coveralls, because it doesn’t cover you from head-to-toe. It covers only your arms, torso, and legs.
